Breaking News! Sam Cassell has been traded to the Sacramento Kings for…a mediocre player who is still in high school? Okay, so maybe this isn’t breaking news. Cassell, the 39-year-old guard who has been acting as somewhat of an assistant coach for the Celtics has been traded to the Kings in return for a conditional second-round draft pick in 2015. Umm, what? Why the hell did anyone even go through with this trade? First of all, the Kings suck this year and adding Cassell is in no way going to help. Second, are the Celtics really looking that far ahead? A conditional second-round draft pick 6 years from now? And lastly, Sam Cassell, why haven’t you retired yet? If you want to be a coach then retire from playing and try to get a coaching job. What exactly does he plan to do in Sacramento?

If you ask me, the trade was probably done because Doc Rivers was tired of having Cassell dressed in a suit and acting as an assistant coach every game instead of sitting on the bench and quietly encouraging his team like all the other non-active players do.

I guess from the Celtic's perspective something is better than nothing, but I don't understand it from the King's side.
